How do I pick up a puppy out of state?

If folks are outside of Arizona but would like a Daisy Mountain Doodle, here are some great options for puppy transport to another state!

Flying

Most airlines allow puppies under 20lbs into the cabin of the plane and can be kept in a carrier under the seat for the flight. There are a lot of good airlines, I personally like flying with puppies through Southwest, they have typically been very gracious when flying with a puppy. Here are two ways to get your puppy by flying.

  • You can fly into Sky Harbor Phoenix International Airport yourself and I can meet you at the airport about an hour before your departing flight with your puppy!! You can order and send me your pet carrier and supplies prior to your flight and can I can bring the puppy and all supplies needed ready to board so it’s a seamless hand off. They may get a little restless during take off/landing, but most nap the rest of the way.

  • You can use a flight nanny to get the puppy to the airport close to you. I would drop off the puppy to a flight nanny at the Phoenix airport, that person would fly with the puppy, then the flight nanny meets you at your airport to hand the puppy to you! There are companies that do this, I suggest Pups on the Fly, or I know a few individuals in Phoenix that, depending on schedules, can fly the puppy out to you. This typically is about $600-$700 (includes the ticket).

*For the car ride home from the airport, bring a crate, doggie car seat, or something to contain them a little, with fresh towels, for the ride home.

Driving

Driving longer distances with puppies can be a great option. If you are in driving distance of Arizona, you can arrange to pick up the puppy at my house and drive home. I suggest bringing a crate for the puppy to travel in the car, towels, blankets, travel bowls for food and water, and high value chews and toys (bully sticks are my favorite). Puppies may have an initial restlessness but most of the time, puppies will settle and sleep a lot when driving. You could do water and bathroom breaks every couple hours, and it can be a pretty easy option for folks!
